Nature of Work
This work involves both laboratory testing and record keeping responsibilities. This is a non- supervisory position and is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Examples of Work
The following examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The absence of the specific statement of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related or logical assignment of the position.
- Type letters, forms, memoranda, reports, tabulations, various card records, and other materials from rough drafts or detail instructions
- Keep accurate records if all incoming calls.
- Processes, sorts, checks for accuracy, and files routine documents in accordance with established systems.
- Operates radio base station.
- Processes all purchasing documents, follows purchasing procedures. Responsible for ordering all supplies for Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- Runs test to determine biochemical oxygen demand.
- Operates PH meter, drying oven, incubator and analytical balance for testing relative stability, chlorine residual PH, dissolved oxygen, suspended solids and total suspended solids.
- Records laboratory tests daily and enters results into the computer.
- Makes summary of tests for the benefit of the Department Head.
- Assists with operation of plant, answers telephone, and runs errands.
- Considerable knowledge of the theory and procedures used in quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis of chemical laboratory equipment and apparatus and of mathematics.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks according to prescribed procedures, and to make accurate observations of test results.
- Ability to keep accurate and up to date records used in recording results of laboratory tests.
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent with some college preferred.
- Must be able to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely
- Ability to exercise good judgment in apprising situations and making decisions, and to deal tactfully with others.
- Must have considerable knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment.
- Must have the ability to understanding and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must possess a Valid Mississippi Driver’s License.
- Must successfully completion of Bureau of Pollution Control Laboratory Technician School within 12 months of employment.
