Nature of Work

To enforce the City animal control laws by surveillance and answering complaints.  This position is classified “Non-Exempt” under FLSA.

Examples of Work

Investigates cases of animal bites.

Transports animals to animal shelter and contact owner.

Perform custodial tasks necessary to preserve the cleanliness of the truck. (sweep, wash down, spray with disinfectant etc.)

Resolves complaints or questions about stray or noisy dogs by picking up and impounding.  When an animal is seen running at large, an attempt is made to find the owner.

Make reports on each incident and file them.

Patrol City in search of animals running at large and other violation concerning animals.

Performs duties outlined in contract between the City of Greenwood a Leflore County Humane Shelter.

Qualifications

Some experience in caring for animals (dogs, cats, etc.).

Must possess a Valid Mississippi Drivers’ License.

Must be able to learn the laws, ordinances, and regulations governing: licensing, quarantine and impounding of animals.

Care and treatment of small animals and symptoms of common dog and cats diseases.

Must have ability to keep simple records and use tact, courtesy, and firmness in enforcing ordinances and regulations.
