TRUCK DRIVER

Nature of Work

This is skilled work in the operation of tandem axle and trailer dump trucks, flat bed dump trucks and heavy equipment trailer and tractor.  The work involves the responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the above trucks.  Operation of the trucks is a full time or predominate task although other work may be performed as directed by the supervisor.  Incumbent shall be responsible for the care of the trucks and may on occasions be required to make trips out of the City to pick up and /or deliver equipment, materials and goods.  This position is “Non-EXEMPT” under the FLSA.

Examples of Work

The following examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in positions allocated to this classification.  The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.

• Operate and drive truck to haul equipment, materials and goods within the City and on occasions make trips out of the City to deliver and /or pick up materials, equipment and goods.
• Wash and Clean equipment on a regular basis.

Qualifications

1. Knowledge of the operating characteristics of equipment assigned, and ability to operate the above equipment with a high degree of proficiency.
2. Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment and operations.
3. Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment.
4. Must have a VALID MISSISSIPPI CLASS “B” COMMERCIAL VEHICLE OPERATOR’S LICENSE.
5. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
6. Must have physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work.
