ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF

Nature of Work

This is supervisory position with the Greenwood Fire Department. Incumbent in this position is responsible for the training of all employees in the Fire Department. Other responsibilities assigned to this position include but in not limited to inventory of all equipment in the Fire Department, the safety and training of all personnel within this department.  This position is classified as “EXEMPT” under the Fair Labor Standard Act.

The Fire Department Training Officer will report directly to the Assistant Chief.

The Assistant Chief along with the Training Officer will prepare training schedules for final approval by the Fire Chief and Mayor.

Responsible for Department’s inventory including all equipment and supplies. Approves all requisitions prior to submission to the City Clerk’s Office. Inspect all firefighting equipment to ensure it meets GFD standards.

Supervises on an annual basis or as deemed necessary fire hose testing and inventory, cleanliness of stations and grounds.

Prepares daily run reports for submission to the Fire Chief and Mayor.

Responsible for personnel evaluations/preparation as required by Civil Service Regulations and the City of Greenwood Rules and Regulations.

During regular working hours respond to all alarms and observe operations, as well as to multi-truck alarms after hours.

Responsible for the reporting of all safety violations observed during operation.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year high school and four years within the past eight of successful full-time employment in work related to the above-described duties, two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity
• Must meet all required qualifications as set forth in the City of Greenwood Fire Department Promotional Policy.
• Must possess a Valid Mississippi Driver’s License.
