Nature of Work
This is general office work involving police records and public information. This position is classified “NON-EXEMPT” under the Fair Labor Standard Act.
Examples of Work
- Preparing and posting all court records, arrest records, criminal records, accidents and complaint records to master index files, type of crime files, stolen property and crime index files, and any other bookkeeping activities.
- Handling all bookkeeping activities regarding parking tickets, keep up to date files on all parking tickets issued. Purges files, mails notices to violators and obtain warrants for arrest in parking cases.
- Answer all incoming telephone lines in Records Division and gives public information as requested. Gives records checks and personnel inquires when requested by other agencies or employers.
- Search and examine female prisoners when requested by uniformed officers.
- Answer correspondence and inquires for records checks and accidents of incidents reports by mail.
- Perform any other duties related to record keeping, collection of fines and public information.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must have a Valid Mississippi Driver’s License
- Knowledge of Police Department procedures in regards to collection of fines and the maintenance records
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform simple arithmetical calculations
- Knowledge and experience in the use of the following: office equipment, typewriter, computers, copy machines, adding machines, filing and index files.
- Some Knowledge of state laws, local ordinances and Police regulations.
- Ability to work with others. (good people skills)
