Nature of Work
This is supervisory work in coordination with the activities of the municipal fire department. The incumbent is in charge of the overall operation of the Fire Department such as purchasing, supervision of personnel, set all training programs, in command of large fires and sets all rules and regulations of Fire Department. In charge of maintenance of stations and all fire equipment. Surveys buildings, grounds, and equipment to estimate needs of Department and prepare Department Budget. May investigate causes of fires and inspects buildings for fire hazards. This position is classified as “EXEMPT” under the Fair Labor Standard Act.

- Coordinates the activities of municipal Fire Department
- Supervises maintenance of station and all fire equipment
- Supervises purchasing, activities of personnel, sets all training programs, in command of large fires and sets all rules and regulations of Fire Department
- Surveys buildings, grounds, and equipment to estimate needs of Department and prepare Department Budget
- May investigate causes of fires and inspects building for fire hazards
- May control insurance of occupancy permits and similar licenses
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year high school and five years within the past ten of successful full-time employment in work related to the above described duties, three years which must have been in a supervisory capacity
- A thorough knowledge of modern theories, principles, and methods of fire prevention and suppression: of training methods used in fire safety
- Considerable skill in the utilization of fire prevention and suppression equipment and of training techniques in the prevention and fighting of fires
- Skill in first aid, its application and method
- Ability to plan, layout and direct the work of subordinates
- Must possess a Valid Mississippi Driver’s License
