Young Emerging Leaders of Leflore
YELL is an exclusive new youth leadership program offered by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce. It stands for Young Emerging Leaders of Leflore.
Thanks to a $90,000 grant from the Walton Foundation/Foundation for the Mid-South, high school juniors can now engage in an exciting year-long youth leadership and development program geared just for them. The students will engage in programs and workshops such as peer-to-peer feedback, community asset mapping, leadership styles, conflict resolution, diversity, community resources and much more. The class will also be required to complete a class project.
The program begins in August, and applications are now being taken for the 2010-2011 class. All schools in the area have information and application forms. Please see your school's guidance counselor or principal if you are interested in participating. Up to 40 students will be admitted into the program. Or, you may download the form from this site. Remember: You must be a high school junior during the school year to participate in that year's program. For example, students who will be high school juniors during 2010-2011 may apply for this upcoming year's program.
Application deadline: April 20, 2010
